Due to 24 hour media we often can not see the forest for the trees. Another such example is upon us. If Democrats had the votes to pass this health care bill they would be voting today. They don’t have the votes. As soon as they think they have the votes, they will vote. However one must wonder exactly how many yes votes are currently possessed by the Speaker of all Speakers, Ms. Nancy Pelosi.

Enter the media. The most likely scenario is that there are far fewer yes votes than we are being told. The media and politicians don’t want it to appear that there is little chance of passing, they want to give the appearance that its close when it really isn’t. It is not unreasonable to suggest that there are 200 yes votes.

UPDATE (Russ)

Queen Nan says she has the votes she needs today.

I think she’s lying.

The Teresa dolls, which feature brown skin and dark hair, are marked as being on sale at $3.00. The Barbies to the right of the Teresa dolls, meanwhile, retain their original price of $5.93.
There you have it folks. The free market, probably the only truly colorblind thing in the entire universe, is inherently racist. Wal-Mart shouldn’t have marked down a poorly-selling item because of the color of the doll’s skin.

“Pricing like items differently is a part of inventory management in retailing,” O’Brien said. But critics say Walmart should have been more sensitive in its pricing choice.”

More sensitive in its pricing choice? Are you kidding me? What happens when Stop-and-Shop finds itself inundated with brown eggs because nobody’s buying them…should they keep ‘em marked up because some crackpot sociologist things it’s “insensitive” to mark them down to move them off the shelves? Eggquality trumps all ladies and gentlemen. What happens if white eggs aren’t selling? Racist too?

Isn’t the effect of a markdown in price usually that that particular item sells better? So we want less Black Barbies sold in order for the sticker price to remain the same? Does that make any sense to anyone?

This is one of the stupidest gripes I’ve ever heard of; people really need to get a grip.

The 14 characteristics are:

Powerful and Continuing Nationalism

Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays. [Hello]

Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights

Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of “need.” The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc. [Pleased to meet you]

Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause

The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc. [or ethic or racial majorities, conservatives, libertarians; constitutionalists, terrorists, etc.]

Supremacy of the Military

Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized. [I’m colorblind, but here’s a big ass pie chart. You do the math]

Rampant Sexism

The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy. [Exhibits A, B and C submitted for approval]

Controlled Mass Media

Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common. [He=Truth]

Obsession with National Security

Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses. [Is Fear Itself]

Religion and Government are Intertwined

Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government’s policies or actions. [Goddamn America!]

Corporate Power is Protected

The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite. [Is this what my man CL means by “Corporatism”?]

Labor Power is Suppressed

Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed. [First of all, if eliminating state sanctioned union extortion, corruption and bribery is “fascist”, then we’re all fascists now baby! Second of all]

Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts

Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts. Art? pffft.

Obsession with Crime and Punishment

Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations. [Fascism looks good in Purple]

Rampant Cronyism and Corruption

Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders. [That’s the Chicago Way]

Fraudulent Elections

Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

[Yup]

I gotta admit, stumbling is fun.

Enjoy!

Democrat underhandedness in finding ways to pass this grab bag of crap notwithstanding, the public overwhelmingly understands that socialized medicine is an impending disaster of epic proportions. What the public doesn’t seem to understand is why the Citizens United case was decided correctly. (Of course, polls are funny things)

Chief Justice Roberts may not have been directly speaking to the decision, but it’s nonetheless encouraging to hear him speak on the scene at all. If the President of the United States is going to condemn the Supreme Court for a decision he doesn’t like by brandishing his rhetorical six-shooter from the national bully pulpit, the Commandant of the tribe on the receiving end of the blast should, nee, must fire back accordingly. Personally, I’m a bigger fan of how Justice Sam “Jersey Boy” Alito handled the matter, but that’s simply a matter of dispositional preference.

The point is that we need to do a better job of explaining to people why Citizens United was the right decision for everyone who doesn’t have the means to be heard on their own. Freedom of Association exists not only so that like-minded individuals may congregate according to their own desires free from government intrusion, but also to provide a means of amplifying their individual right to speak what they deem to be the truth. Without the latter, what real purpose is there in protecting the former?

Another test is about to unfold and for the record, you can consider me as absolutist as they come in matters of the first freedom. Snyder’s father would have walked across the street, delivered unto Phelps’ minions a healthy taste of Marine justice and no judge in his right mind would ever have acknowledged a charge against him in reprisal. That we don’t live in that world anymore is regrettable; but it remains nonetheless true that punishment of the speech itself is a path down which none of us should wish to go.

Uh…what?

See how that works? Right now, the “fog of controversy” makes it impossible to see, know or understand what’s in the bill. (Read: Congress is tired of the backlash from a bunch of mongoloids who just can’t grasp the subtle brilliance of socialized medicine) But if they pass it…all will be well in Mudville. She could just post in online, I suppose, but…nah.

Does anyone have anything intelligent to say to this? I sure as hell don’t.

Bob notes that it’s the kind of thing that makes your head explode. Yeh, I can see the similarities between attempting to interpret this nugget of Queenly wisdom and sticking your head inside a cannon with the fuse crackling. That’s the most apt analysis I’ve seen anywhere. Kudos Bob.

I can’t even form a cogent analogy for this kind of stupidity. I think Pelosi has literally just invented a new plateau. She has set the bar at an unattainable height for even the most dedicated leftist moron. Nobody can top this. She is now the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world and there will be none strong enough to challenge her.

It was floated at the beginning of the War on Poverty and flatly rejected by Pres. Lyndon Johnson. Not so President Obama, who consistently seeks to expand the far-left horizons of U.S. politics.
The weird new poverty measure will produce very odd results. For example, if the real income of every single American were to magically triple over night, the new poverty measure would show there had been no drop in “poverty,” because the poverty income threshold would also triple. Under the Obama system, poverty can be reduced only if the incomes of the “poor” are rising faster than the incomes of everyone else.

Another paradox of the new poverty measure is that countries such as Bangladesh and Albania will have lower poverty rates than the United States, even though the actual living conditions in those countries are extremely bad. Haiti would probably have a very low poverty rate when measured by the Obama system because the earthquake reduced much of the population to a uniform penniless squalor.

via article.nationalreview.com

See how easy that is?

Russ

Posted via web from The Resistance
