Wherever you are, the march of liberalism everywhere else contributes to our national woe.

Wherever you are, somewhere else there is a liberal politician being groomed for higher office.

Wherever you are, there are good Conservatives pushing back against the tide in their own backyards.

This year, in an off-off election, we here in the Swamps of New Jersey are doing just that.

We could use your help.

For 16 consecutive years liberal Democrats have controlled the Township of Old Bridge, a large municipality in Middlesex County, and used it like their own personal piggy bank.

• They have built a staggering $8 million budget deficit;
• They sell Township land to Township utility authorities to plug gaping budget holes;
• They have no other ideas on increasing revenue other than increasing taxes; and
• This June, they passed an unfunded, lifetime health care ordinance that reduces the number of required years of service from 25 to 15 years, which means Old Bridge will foot the entire employee health care bill for individuals who work for a total of 25 years in the system. The cost of this bill is astronomical.

We can win this year. We can turn the tide of liberalism here in Old Bridge and thereafter, Middlesex County and beyond.

We’re asking for $16 to help us do that. $16 to help fellow Conservatives in New Jersey save a Township and a State from California’s fate.

Labor Day is behind us and as such, we have officially begun the home stretch of our campaign which concludes on Tuesday November 8^th. 

Post Labor Day, also signifies the start of the silly season wherein the Democrats will roll out their propaganda machine and start to spew the normal garbage about our candidates.  Owen, Debbie, Jim and I will be vilified and blamed for all the ills affecting our town because, quite frankly, the Democrats cannot run on the issues.

The Democrats in Old Bridge have done significant and long lasting damage to our town.  Through years and years of malfeasance, they have left the Township with a $7 – 8M debt starting in 2012. 

They have sold off Township land, used one-shot revenue schemes to balance bloated budgets, decimated the OBMUA causing Water and Sewer rates to rise and have continually raised Municipal Taxes. 

Is that a record you would brag about? Of course not.

An article in yesterday’s Suburban touts Republican Mayoral Candidate Owen Henry’s success in bringing a true economic revitalization plan to Old Bridge after eight years of Democrat malfeasance:

Planning Board member Owen Henry said the new changes to the R-120 zone, allowing for one house per acre and the clustering of homes, will make development cheaper and create more open space.

For example, a property owner with 100 acres, under the old requirements of the R- 120 zone, could build 33 homes spread out over the entire property. Now, the township would allow 30 homes to be built on 30 acres, with the rest remaining open space. Because only one corner of the 100 acres is being used, Henry said, this makes developing the property much cheaper and gives the township free open space.

“It’s an oxymoron — with development will come new open space,” Henry said. “Hopefully, we will expand that to other areas.”

Republican Mayoral Candidate Owen Henry, a former Business Leader of the Year, worked tirelessly on and with the Planning Board for two years, against significant resistance from the Democrat Council Members and Mayor Patrick Gillespie, to bring a real plan for economic revitalization and jobs to Old Bridge.

The Old Bridge Township Council will not meet this month, and Republican members are wondering why.

Council President G. Kevin Calogera said the month’s only meeting, scheduled for July 18, was canceled because some members are on vacation and others cannot make it for personal reasons such as work and other commitments. The cancellation was announced July 13.

The council’s last meeting was held on June 20; its next one is scheduled for Aug. 15.

With five of the council’s nine members needed for a quorum vote, and with all four Republican members planning to attend the July 18 meeting, Councilwoman Mary Sohor said there is something “strange” about the situation.

“We had this scheduled back in January,” said Sohor, a Republican. “I just cannot understand how all this came about. … To think that five people have five different things going on, that no one could come?”

Republican Councilman Brian Cahill said he believes that since it is an election year for mayor and three council seats, the Democrats, who hold a 5-4 majority, do not want to be on a public stage to answer the questions being posed by the public and the four Republicans.

“The Democrats have become ostriches, sticking their heads in the sand, hoping the town’s troubles will go away,” Cahill said.

Cahill said the Democrats proposed hosting a telephone conference call to vote on urgent matters this month. But he said he would not take part in that.

“I refuse to participate in any phone vote,” Cahill said. “The residents deserve better and they deserve an opportunity for their voices to be heard.”

Republican Councilwoman Lucille Panos also refused to participate in the phone vote, noting that there were several important items on the agenda for the July 18 meeting, Panos said.

Panos said the council was set to revisit the controversial early retirement ordinance that was adopted in May; consider a proposed change in a security ordinance that requires businesses open from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. to have two employees working; and vote on an engineering contract worth $24,831 for inspection services.

“The canceling of the July 18 Old Bridge Township Council meeting is politics at its worst,” Panos said. “It has nothing to do with quorum and all to do about the Democrat majority controlling the council votes.”

Politics at its worst. That about sums up the Old Bridge Democrats.

Don’t worry though, People of Old Bridge, your rulers will take questions after their vacations.

In predictable Democrat fashion, newly installed Middlesex chieftain Peter Barnes had a few choice words for Middlesex County taxpayers and Governor Christie:

That was a moment of solidarity for Democrats,” the new chairman said, referring to Christie’s decision to cut $900 million from the state budget Democrats submitted to him last week. “Christie was an unknown quantity when he won. Now he’s known - by this budget. People are starting to pay attention. The governor has decimated the foundations of the Democratic Party.

If only that were true.

Here is my reply, slightly abbreviated, as I feel my actual rebuttal lies in most of the posts already on my blog and those of many other conservatives.

I’m glad you chose my piece as the opposing view for your article and I hope you continue your search for what it means to be an American. It is one of the most important questions you will ever ask of yourself or your fellow Americans.

You mentioned in your accompanying email message that you didn’t want to start a debate but I cannot let these arguments go unchallenged. It is clear to me that you are concerned for the well being of your fellow Americans and that is admirable. It is also painfully clear that you’ve bought into the whole “victim mentality” that permeates much of our country and serves only to reinforce the entitlement culture. While you say we agree on the fact that some entitlements are unearned, you don’t propose any steps to alleviate the problem. In fact, you mention it once and proceed to gloss over it.

I could go through Kristen’s piece line by line, but I’ll just do the first. It exemplifies the rest.

Medicare is currently doing its job now without being excessive, according to the chart you provide.

Did you ignore the chart after 2011? Didn’t you see the projected outlay of money to social programs which, if left unchecked, will bankrupt the nation? Not being excessive? Really? We are currently living on borrowed money to enable these programs. The interest on that debt is a huge contributor to the projected debt levels in the chart, not to mention when Obamacare really gets going.

You mentioned also that, according to some guy who wrote something (FDR – Corning), it is the social duty of government to take money from those who have earned it and give that money to those who have not (The bottom line of your quote.). The qualifications for that “benefit” are also to be laid out by the government doing the taking. You don’t have a problem with that? You don’t see the potential for abuse of power being actualized at this moment by the politicians buying votes with peoples’ taxed (stolen) dollars? This is why the Founders were against social programs born of the Federal Government, because the Fed. is too far removed from the people it is supposed to serve. These programs belong at the local, regional, or state level, if they come from government at all. (See Romneycare for an example of more government healthcare failure.)

It is clear to me from your arguments that restraining the powers of the Federal Government to its original “few and defined” number, has ceased to be taught in our schools. In fact, it ceased to be taught years before the New Deal. If it had been, people would have never been duped into such a ponsi scheme as Social Security or many other New Deal type programs. The New Deal was the gateway drug to government’s addiction to taking it’s citizen’s property, leading the way to ever more taxes and increases on those taxes for some other new entitlement, and now that they have set the IRS as a redistributive tool, they disguise any thievery at all in some cloak of charitable outlay while accusing the taxed of being cold-hearted, uncaring and greedy. Witness political projection at it’s finest.

Not far from where I live is a city called Port Arthur, Texas, which has a rich history in the oil exploration and refinery industry. The city has been run for decades by predominantly liberal policy. As of the latest tally the local unemployment rate stands at 16% to 17%, which is quite probably the worst in Texas. The jobs are available. High paying ones. There are many workers coming in from all over the country to fill positions the local people won’t take. Why? Entitlement Mentality. They have been trained for years by their government and culture to not take a job if it will interfere with their welfare or unemployment check, plain and simple.

The unemployment rate in the state of Texas is 8%. Even if we assume that 8% of the population of Port Arthur is indigent, how do you explain the other 8%? I’ve lived here for 25 years and I can tell you that they do not want a real job, even when one is readily available. If you look at most any city or county across the nation (Detroit for example?) that has long standing leftist policies I believe you will find the vast majority to be the same. People won’t work if they are paid not to. It’s that simple. Look for yourself. Question what your professors tell you is “progress” and you will find that their version of progress only takes away a person’s will to provide for themselves.

My man C-Wy lives a couple exits north of me in the Swamp so he knows, better than I, what the libnut world is all about. Caldwell might be this place or that, but it shares a common thread with America…

I’ve never met the man but I know what kind of man he is; he loves his wife, he loves his daughter and he loves his Country.
