Let's Play...Who Wants to be a Baby-Killer!
Oh my holy God. It’s “Bump” and it’s coming to an internet near you:
First it was the Real World, then came the Jersey Shore. Now, a new pseudoreality show is hoping to make an impression – only this time the cameras are following three actresses pretending to have unwanted pregnancies, and whether or not they decide to get an abortion is up to the viewers.
The “Bump” was conceived after President Obama’s commencement address at Note Dame University last year where he said he wanted “to find ways to communicate about a workable solution to the problem of unintended pregnancies,” executive producer Dominic Iocco told The Washington Post.
The pilot was launched on the eve of the 37th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, and starting Feb. 1 episodes will air twice a week on the show’s Web site, BumptheShow.com and YouTube.
Creator’s say the idea is to humanize the debate, according to the Post
“Humanize the debate”? How? Who doesn’t already know somebody who has had an abortion? According to the NRLC there have been 50,000,000 in the years since Roe v. Wade. I suppose “Bump” could humanize abortion the way “Jersey Shore” humanized Guidos…but we all know how that turned out don’t we.
Look, I don’t really care what your stance on Abortion is quite frankly, but can anyone tell me with a straight face that a stunt like this will lead to constructive debate on the issue? Three actresses in different pretend “predicaments” that leads to an audience based vote on who gets an abortion?
That’s the conclusion the show’s creators drew from Obama’s Notre Dame platitudes? Put on an internet stunt like this?
It’s fake, by the way, but how far away are we from a game show where the grand prize is a real abortion? I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see that if this internet-only show does well.
This is goddamn ghoulish people.

Before you get all tied up in knots at the title of the post, I am in no way disparaging women in general who have to make the terrible choice of whether or not to have an abortion, although I do believe those that do make the wrong choice.
Like my piece on Planned Parenthood, the title is directed at those demons who profit off of the procedure and, worse yet, actively promote it to impressionable and confused young women through lies, deception and coercion, as Cassy noted at HotAir the other day.
You want evidence? Look at the lengths to which NOW and their horrendous cheerleader-in-chief Gloria Allred will go to demonize a pro-life message of choice in an as yet unseen Super Bowl commercial telling the real-life decision of Tim Tebow’s mom. These people are invested in abortion. They couldn’t care less about the women involved or whether there’s a choice.
Somebody’s gotta feed the monkey…
Ed:
When groups like NOW want to silence people like the Tebows, they’re doing so to protect their own turf. The ad asks people to choose life, not to ban abortion. If NOW really was pro-choice, they’d see nothing invalid about showing the end result of one choice and the faith that carried the Tebows from that terrifying diagnosis to the pinnacle of athletic and scholarly success. Tebow represents hope in the midst of hopelessness. NOW doesn’t want people to have hope; they want women to buy abortions, and this ugly response has made that crystal clear.
That’s goddamn right.

Because I don’t have a child and thus won’t pretend to relate, read Stacey’s explanation of “The Difference One Life Can Make”
I’ll post the same paragraph Stacey does from Conservative Girl with a Voice:
While I have always described myself as a pro-lifer, there was a time when I didn’t really have a strong opinion either way. Many of you may be wondering, “What made her change her mind; what made her garner the strong pro-life stance she has today?” My response is simple and can be summed up in four words: Sarah and Trig Palin. Before Sarah stepped to the forefront, I never gave much thought to the whole “abortion” debate. While I knew that I would personally ALWAYS choose life, I never gave it much thought beyond my own personal beliefs.
Blame it on society, blame it on the media and pop culture, or blame it on my young, naive self. My entire perspective changed when Sarah illustrated how wonderful giving someone life could be. Little Trig Palin represents how amazing an experience choosing life can be. This little angel has changed my whole perspective on the whole pro-life/ pro-choice debate. This little boy is a reminder that ALL life IS precious.
Don’t give this show the time of day. I’m not one for “boycotting” per se, but just don’t give them the audience they so desperately desire. The premise itself isn’t worth your time.
