The FBI knew what?
Everybody's favorite mass murdering Islamist tried to contact Al-Queda...and the FBI knew that?
It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.
Are you serious? I don't know where the bigger breakdown in communication is here. We've heard reports that the Army themselves had observed odd behavior from Hasan for a while prior to his rampage and now we get reports that the FBI knew, but didn't tell the Army, that Hasan had tried to contact Al-Queda.
This is bad. I thought we had cleared up the inter-agency pissing contests after 9/11. Why on earth would the FBI not inform the Army the second they had intelligence that an officer in their ranks was engaging in outreach to the enemy?
I have no answer for this. Ed said it first and he's right, this is 9/10 thinking in a 9/12 world. People will continue to die if our intelligence agencies don't get their act together.
A fellow Army doctor who studied with Hasan, Val Finell, told ABC News, "We would frequently say he was a Muslim first and an American second. And that came out in just about everything he did at the University.
Finell said he and other Army doctors complained to superiors about Hasan's statements.
I'm going out on a limb here and telling you that all Muslims are "Muslims first" and Americans second. There is an inherent conflict of interest for all Muslims in the United State military today. It is unavoidable. And I cringe to think that there are more Hasan's lying in wait and, having watched Hasan fail in his quest for martyrdom, planning their own spectacular rebuke to our foreign policy in the Middle East.
If the Army and the FBI don't get serious about this issue fast, more people are going to die.
