Remembering the Victims of Communism
Reason TV put together a nice, 4-minute interview with Heritage Foundation Fellow and creator of the 'Victims of Communism' memorial, Lee Edwards.
One of the reasons Communism simply won't die is that there is a dearth of pictures showing the horrors of the Gulag and other Soviet camps. We have plenty from Nazi Germany, but that's really only because the U.S. won the war and opened the camps, as well as the fact Hitler was an egomaniac.
No such visual evidence exists in the same volume regarding the terror that went on behind the Iron Curtain. People just can't comprehend the Communist terror without seeing it, which is in part why the philosophy exists in some form to this day. Mr. Edwards introduces in the clip a new series of paintings by Gulag survivor Nikolai Gettman, who does his best to recreate the terror. Some of them are stunning.
Remember, our President is too busy to represent the United States on this historic occasion.
Mr. Edwards first question is "Why should we care about the fall of the Berlin Wall?"
Obama doesn't know the answer to that question.
