The Scozzafava Episode
I'll just weigh in quickly on what has proved to be a great 'teachable moment' for Conservatives and the greater GOP establishment.
Read our lips...No New RINO's.
The NY GOP got it wrong. Newt got it wrong. The greater RNC got it wrong. Everybody except, yup, Sarah Palin, got it wrong. And now they're all backtracking and hoping we won't notice. Dede threw her support to the Democrat, which was as predictable as the sunrise, and now Newt and the rest of the establishment Dinosaur republicans are scrambling to make up for picking and backing her to begin with.
Doug Hoffman, the Conservative candidate in NY-23, is up on the Democrat in nearly every poll by comfortable margins. What's that tell you? I know what it tells me. It tells me that this summer wasn't a fluke. People just weren't blowing off steam. They're fed up. We've had enough. To hell with capitulating to the establishment, we're going to run our own guys and we're going to win. If it split the party in two, so be it.
The best part is...it won't. We may lose some DIABLO's, (Democrats In All But Label Only), but I'd posit a guess that for everyone of those that we lose, we gain 2 Independents or Blue Dog Democrats. The Scozzafava episode has finally put to bed the Frum/Noonan/Brooks/McCain theory on how to win elections and exposed them for the frauds that they are.
Conservatism wins elections. It wins hearts and minds. It does so because we have the only workable ideas for organizing 300 million people and providing opportunity for everyone who cares to take advantage. We have the only proven system for providing the best opportunities for the most people.
It is our ideas, those passed down to us from the Founders, that not only win elections but allow for the greatness of the American people to lead the world toward a better, more prosperous and peaceful tomorrow.
Don't let up now folks. We're going to win here in New Jersey and we're going to win in Virginia. Then we're going to clean house and mop up in 2010. We're going to correct our socialist experiment mistake in 2012 and begin the hard work of redirecting this Country back to greatness.
It's not a pipe dream. It's one of my better days so I can see dawn coming. The sun hasn't yet crested the horizon, but it's there.
Well done New York.
