Jersey Cookin' the Books for Corzine
I guess like anywhere else, there's a distinct difference between the character of the people that inhabit any given state and their politicians. This is regrettable enough. But in New Jersey it is literally like cats and dogs, apples and oranges....liberals and conservatives.
I just get finished praising the good people down in South Jersey who went out and scolded the elementary school that allowed that despicable worship hymn to Obama when we get this story that Jersey's Department of Labor and Workforce Development is in kahootz with Jon 'The Don' Corzine to inflate job numbers in the run up to next month's election.
I swear to God, just when I think Jersey can't get any more foul it comes up with a new form of corruption. I've tried to get out and help the Christie campaign on the phones but just can't get out there to Freehold. I hope they capitalize on this and exploit it for everything it's worth, which of course I'm skeptical is very much at all, unfortunately.
Basically, the DLWD inflated the job numbers to rosy estimates from June to August but then was forced to adjust each month's estimate downward considerably at the end of every month. There doesn't seem to any explanation for the "error" other than it being done intentionally to make Corzine's performance look better than it was in reality.
What's worse, Brian Faughnan at RedState got a hold of this email making it look positively conspiratorial:
In the midst of a tough re-election campaign focusing on his stewardship of the economy, Gov. Jon Corzine’s office recently instructed his cabinet officers to orchestrate events showcasing job creation.
In an Oct. 5 e-mail obtained by The Star-Ledger, Corzine deputy chief of staff Mark Matzen asked the commissioners of several departments to “come up with an event or two or three that show job creation or economic development in the private sector.” The events, planned for this week, would “get our message out” that “the economic policies of Governor Corzine are working,” in part by generating “stories in weekly as well as daily newspapers,” Matzen wrote.
“I know that it might be a stretch for some of you, but please be creative,” the e-mail states. “While many programs might not created (sic) jobs directly, they do have some connection to job creation either through training, giving money to sustain employment or create demand for workers.”
"Be creative"? "Some connection to job creation"? Are you &%@! kidding me? Corzine ought to be tried and convicted for this stunt. Seriously, Republicans in the assembly need to investigate this now. Not tomorrow, not after breakfast....Now!
I'm not one to care at all what people say about my State, but when they talk about us being the Nobel Corruption Prize winners year in and year out, I have to just shake my head and agree.
Resign Jon-it's the only honorable thing to do at this point.
